“Easter spit-roast” provides a virtual tour within a 3D model of the Nereid Monument’s Crouching Lion currently exhibited in the British Museum. Dozens of images were combined using photogrammetry software in order to extract the sculpture’s surface; Its insides were discarded in a taxidermy-like process, allowing the viewer to penetrate its now digitized, hollow body. From the temple to the museum, from guardian deity to institutional property, from stone to binary code, it has been a journey of shiftings in meaning, identity and politics of display: a continuous process of corruption and trespassing until I found myself buried shoulder-deep into the lion’s butt.
